The Traverse team invites you deep into the Southern Alps for a three-day trail running adventure through some of New Zealand's most breathtaking alpine landscapes. Explore winding mountain trails and take in sweeping high country views at an easygoing pace. Each day brings fresh air, shared stories, and unforgettable moments topped off with the welcoming touch of Kiwi hospitality. This trip isn't just about running - it's about connecting: to the land, to High Country life, and to a small, like-minded crew of runners. Just pack your trail gear - we'll take care of the rest.
Arrive at our high country base by 12pm for a welcome lunch and orientation with your Traverse hosts. After settling into your accommodation, we’ll kick off the adventure with a relaxed afternoon run to the legendary Golden Hall of Rohan - the filming location of Edoras, nestled in the heart of the high country. Post-run, unwind with a stream dip or explore the area before we come together for a shared dinner.
Fuel up with breakfast at 7am before we hit the trail for our biggest day. Today we have a couple of options, 1 route takes us high into the hills, with rewarding views across the Southern Alps, Rangitata River, and sweeping valleys whilst the other, sees us stay closer to the river with less elevation but just as amazing views and sights. We’ll pause for a scenic trail lunch before winding our back to our accommodation. In the late afternoon, recharge with a restorative stretching session. As the sun sets through the valley, we’ll enjoy a relaxed outdoor BBQ dinner and share stories from the trail.
We’ll start early with breakfast and one last scenic trail run to get those epic views once more. Today’s pace is cruisy - perfect for chatting to your new friends and reflecting on the journey. We’ll finish with a farewell lunch before making our way back to Christchurch.
